New Video - Load testing

Someone asked us about how much load our HUB-ee wheels could cope with - so we thought we would do a quick test ... We built a little flat top bot with four wheels and a couple of IR distance sensors, and put a 5kg tub of stones on the top to see if it would cope.

With the first test we used the speedy 120:1 wheels -- The robot moves forward quite easily, but the wheels stall when it tries to turn.

For the second test we swapped in a set of slower but more powerful 180:1 wheels -- The robot does s slightly better job of turning this time and manages to avoid a few walls.

The take home point here would be that skid steering is not the best design when you want to carry a heavy load. If we had built the bot as a two wheel differential steering platform it would probably turn the corners much better.
